Optus Connected Perspectives

Optus’s refreshed EVP was built around one idea: every role is connected. The challenge was making that feel real across a business spanning tech, retail, engineering and more. WKV built a film and photography suite designed to show that connection in action, with each format tailored to where and how it would be seen.

The Brief

Bring Optus’s EVP to life through real people driving real impact, without falling into the abstraction recruitment content often does.

The work needed to speak to prospective talent across the full breadth of the business, from cybersecurity to customer service, while staying anchored to one clear throughline: connection.

The Solution

The strategic challenge was one of credibility.

A business as large and varied as Optus can easily talk about culture in broad terms, but the broader the message becomes, the harder it is for prospective employees to see where they fit within it.

So rather than relying on one film to carry the entire EVP, WKV built a three-format system designed to prove connection in different ways, supported by a complementary suite of photography.

The content was built around evidence rather than assertion. Real employees, real roles and different points of view made connection visible across the business, while giving each audience a more specific way into the same overarching idea.

The result was an EVP system that could stretch across a large, varied workforce without flattening that variety into one generic culture message.

Employee Brand Film

The hero EVP film needed to make a large, complex organisation feel connected in under two minutes.

The solution was a first-person journey through a day in the life of Optus staff, moving through tech spaces, retail environments, creative hubs and boardrooms. Fast-paced visuals, fluid transitions and a strong sense of movement link those environments together, turning breadth into momentum rather than fragmentation.

Real employees remain front and centre throughout, allowing the film to communicate opportunity, pace and impact without relying on a scripted explanation of culture.

The result is a film that shows how very different roles can still feel part of the same organisation and the same broader purpose.

Unlikely Pairings

Recruitment content usually tells you what a company’s culture is like. This format lets you watch it happen.

The series pairs Optus employees from very different parts of the business — a tech lead with retail staff, for example — for unscripted, one-on-one conversations.

Two chairs, one camera, no script.

Strategically, the format removes the brand from the middle of the conversation. Instead of Optus explaining its culture, employees reveal it through the way they relate to one another.

What surfaces are shared challenges, unexpected similarities and different perspectives on career growth, proof points that feel more credible because they emerge naturally rather than being written into a script.

Diversity & Inclusion

The DEI film had a different communications challenge: turning a corporate commitment into something audiences could believe.

Built entirely from client-supplied assets and told through employee voices, the film explores identity, belonging and opportunity as lived experiences rather than stated values.

Using existing footage was part of the strategy. Rather than creating a highly polished standalone campaign around diversity, the film draws from the people and moments already present within the organisation.

The result positions diversity not as a separate initiative, but as something embedded in how people work, progress and contribute across Optus.

Photography

The photography suite extended the EVP beyond film, giving Optus a bank of authentic, flexible imagery for careers pages, LinkedIn and internal communications.

Shot with real employees across different roles and environments, the approach avoided the polished, stock-like feel common to recruitment imagery. Instead, the focus was on people in context — working, collaborating and moving through the spaces that make up Optus.

Strategically, the photography gave the broader EVP system longevity, creating consistent visual proof of the same idea across more channels and touchpoints than film alone could reach.

The WKV team also created a range of behind-the-scenes edits from the shoot, including setup vs the shot comparisons. They show the people and craft behind the production and how each frame comes together.
